Family Camp 2021

Programs & Activities

Camp Hurontario has been family owned and operated for the last 75 years, and has been offering a traditional camp experience in a spectacular environment for our entire history. This summer, we are excited to be offering a Family Camp program to give not only children, but also parents, an opportunity to experience the beauty of our island setting in the Georgian Bay. Escape the city and come ‘breathe the air’ in our little slice of paradise!

Our Family Camp program has been put together with your whole family in mind, with programs for children of all ages and opportunities to participate or relax for parents. Each day will offer an opportunity for your campers to sign up for traditional camp activities with our experienced counselling and instructor staff in the morning. Parents can sign up for their own activities, or just sit back and enjoy the gorgeous weather on the Georgian Bay.

Afternoons will have your family participating in fun events and challenges that get the whole family involved such as an Amazing Race, scavenger hunts or regattas. Our enthusiastic staff will be there to support you all and join in on the fun of these great events.

In the evening, we will have an opportunity to enjoy each other’s company with campfires, skit nights or an evening of socializing for parents as your campers are treated to an evening of fun with our wonderful staff.

This week of fun will offer a great opportunity to be at camp for those familiar with camp and indeed a terrific chance to introduce new families to what Hurontario is all about. We cannot wait to welcome you all here.

Facilities

Each family group will occupy their own individual rustic cabin, with a room for sleeping and a room with a table and chairs for enjoying snacks or reading a book. Each sleeping cabin contains single beds, shelving for each family member and electricity. Washrooms will be assigned to individual families and are a short walk away from each cabin.

Food Service

Camp Hurontario Dining Hall

Food has always been an essential part of any summer at Hurontario, and Family Camp is no different! Enjoy delicious meals provided by our chef, with snacks provided in the afternoons and evenings. Meals can be eaten in our Dining Hall, or brought back to the cabin or one of our picnic tables to be enjoyed. All meals are included in our costs and are perfectly suited to be enjoyed by the whole family. Our chef is able to accommodate most dietary restrictions upon request.

Health & Safety

The health and safety of our staff and campers is our number one priority. We are committed to following all Covid regulations and guidelines provided by the government and our public health authorities. Upon arrival, each family will receive a rapid antigen Covid test, and with clear results they can begin to enjoy the island. To ensure the safety of our whole camp community, we recommend that all of those 12 and older come to camp having received at least one dose of a vaccine.

We employ registered nurses to run our health centre, affectionately known as Club Med, and ensure that each family’s health is cared for. Each of our staff members is trained in First-Aid and our camp is just a short boat ride and a drive away from Parry Sound Hospital.

Transportation

Given the wonderful location of our camp on an island, all families will arrive at the island by boat. Parking can be found at the Government Dock free of charge, with a map provided in your welcome package.
