Vaccination Policy

The purpose of Camp Hurontario’s vaccination policy is to ensure the health and safety of all campers, staff and visitors while at camp. Vaccination is one the best ways to protect against COVID-19. This policy applies to all campers, staff and visitors to Camp Hurontario. This policy will be emailed to all registered families on February 2, 2022, posted on the camp website and linked in the camp registration portal.

All staff and campers must be fully vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination to the camp office at least two weeks (14 days) prior to arriving at camp, via email or through the camp’s registration portal.

All visitors to the camp must be fully vaccinated and will be asked to show proof of vaccination prior to or upon arrival at the camp island, to be scanned using the Verify Ontario app.

Unvaccinated individuals will not be permitted to attend or visit the camp.

Someone is considered fully vaccinated if they have received their final dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days before providing the proof of being fully vaccinated:

  • the full series of a COVID-19 vaccine authorized by Health Canada, or any combination of such vaccines (two doses of Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca) in any combination or one dose of Janssen (Johnson & Johnson)
  • one or two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine not authorized by Health Canada followed by one dose of a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine authorized by Health Canada
  • three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine not authorized by Health Canada

We strongly encourage those eligible to have a booster dose. We anticipate that the definition of fully vaccinated may change to reflect the importance of booster doses, as such, the camp’s Vaccination Policy is subject to change.

Please be aware that most camps are requiring COVID-19 vaccinations so there may be a rush for vaccine appointments leading up to the summer. Please book early (see below).

Trades and other maintenance people whose work is mainly outdoors and can safely be completed away from campers and staff are encouraged but not required to be vaccinated. They will be required to wear masks and be socially distant at all times on the camp island.

Guardians of a camper who is registered for Summer 2022 prior to February 2, 2022, who choose to withdraw as a result of this policy can request a full refund minus the deposit as an administrative fee by February 18, 2022. After this date, fees are non-refundable. All registrations received after February 2, 2022, are non-refundable.

This vaccination policy is one part of Hurontario’s overall COVID-19 protocols. Full protocols for the summer will be published prior to the beginning of camp, in time for the camp and families to make necessary arrangements, while still close enough to the summer to reflect the most up-to-date public health guidelines and regulations and summer camp best practices.
